The 13th Annual International Chefs Congress

The International Chefs Congress is an industry symposium held in New York City with top chefs, bartenders, and sommeliers from around the world sharing techniques and knowledge with 2,000 professional attendees—explored through the theme. For 2018, the theme was Cooking with Respect: Better People, Better Food.

"Leaders from around the globe define what’s good—in the culture we’re working to build, the cuisines we craft, and the profession that drives us all. Along with more than 150 industry leaders from around the globe, we’ll figure out what to celebrate … and what we need to smash. The styling I developed for the programming guide utilizes a branding system with clean, structured layouts and bold, powerful images mixed with loose, colorful, graphic illustrations.

Art direction + design of 300 page programming guide including participant profiles and recipes.

Vertical page edges are color-coded to make the section pages more identifiable. Each section page is introduced by a graphic, black and white, photo-driven spread with a single color illustration.

Layouts are simple and spacious, allowing the bright colors and photos to pop. Interior pages filled are with original photography and illustrations, recipes, biographies, and interviews.

Design for Somm Slam

Judging cards and placemats were designed for Somm Slam, a real-time pairing, blind tasting, and theory competition that showcases the best sommeliers in the country.
